Down the Rabbit Hole: THE LOOKING GLASS WARS & ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND Conversation

According to Alyss Heart, Lewis Carroll got Wonderland all wrong (even the spelling of her name) when he penned his classic. The premise for author Frank Beddor's LOOKING GLASS WARS young adult series is that Alyss Heart was forced to flee Wonderland when Redd Heart made a violent grab for her throne. Exiled to Victorian England, Alyss tells her woes to the aspiring author, Mr. Carroll. Mr. Carroll then has the audacity to clean up the tale and turn it into a silly children's story!
Author Frank Beddor delights in toying with Lewis Carroll's brilliant classic right down to taking credit for its existence. Lewis Carroll's non-sensical, hypnotizing creation, though, was penned first in the halls of Oxford and we owe him much for all the stories he has inspired.

After listening to the talented narrators Gerald Doyle and Michael York voice two very different Mad Hatters on the audiobooks, join the conversation. Does Beddor's YA series lead readers and listeners back to Carroll's wonderful original? Do the details from each enrich the other?

Sorry this doesn't apply to the discussion itself, but I noticed this post says: The FREE download of these titles will be available from SYNC from 7/15/10 -7/21/10, but this was just posted today!

I'm assuming it was just copy and pasted and is essentially a typo?

Now to the discussion - I've not yet listened to either audiobook, but I remember my mother giving me a copy of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass when I was 9. I have read it once a year nearly every year since I was 9 (I am now 30).

I can't wait to listen to both audiobooks!
Nice catch - it's being corrected as we type :) I'm really looking forward to this set, too!
I have listened to a recording of actress Linda Hamilton reading Alice in Wonderland and it was actually quite good. Can't wait to listen to Michael York, though. =)
SYNC HEAD was a little muddled in the head on that update, apparently.
Ohhhh...awesome! My entire family read and enjoyed Looking Glass Wars trilogy...look forward to the audio version (and the movie that is supposedly in the works).

Most excellent pairing! Thanks so much!

There is a movie casting call for Young Alyss and Young Dodge here! Look under 'Curiosity.'
Even though I live in the US it won't let me download the Looking Glass Wars. Is this a known bug soon to be fixed or am I the only one?
Sean, were you able to get it to work? If not, send an email to abchelp@audiofilemagazine.com and we'll get you sorted out!
There are so many cool features on THE LOOKING GLASS WARS website. We love the music inspired by the series.

The room where ALICE IN WONDERLAND was written at Christ's Church in Oxford.
Can't get enough of THE LOOKING GLASS WARS? There are two more audiobooks in the series:

SEEING REDD

ARCHENEMY

And you can read our interview with author Frank Beddor here, and our profile of Golden Voice narrator Gerard Doyle, who reads all the audiobooks in the series, here!
Can't get enough of Alice? There are many audio versions of ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND available, read by many fabulous narrators. Get a taste of how different they can be by listening to Three Mad Cups of Tea, our audio comparison of the Mad Tea Party scene, read in turn by three different narrators: Michael York, Jim Dale, and Christopher Plummer.
