Sailors & Scallywags:
The BLOODY JACK and TREASURE ISLAND Conversation

Beware the Black Spot, me mates! Whether you be the young Jim Hawkins or the guttersnipe Jacky Faber, there be adventure at sea for those that choose it.  Treasure, yes, but also the treachery and trickery of pirates.

SYNC sets sail with the cunning Jacky in her first appearance in BLOODY JACK and with Master Hawkins, friend (and foe) to the pirate Long John Silver in the classic TREASURE ISLAND.

Both audiobooks have been honored with an Odyssey Award Honor for their outstanding productions.

X marks the spot for your thoughts, links, and other mutinous musings that arise when you listen to these audiobooks.  JOIN the conversation in comments below.

If you are or become a hardcore Jacky Faber fan you can walk the plank of the Jacky Faber Boards (fan forum) here.
A map of Jacky Faber's London courtesy of author L.A. Meyer!
I just waited forever to download Bloody Jack from the New York library! And here it is for free. But it was worth the wait. Now I need to join the Queens library to download the next 2. Here's a link to my review on my blog: http://theprofoundelephant.wordpress.com/2010/07/09/by-the-waters-e...
BLOODY JACK is well worth the wait and the travails with you iPod cord, Julie! I read the books in hard copy and have revisited them in audio. Katherine Kellgren's narration is the VERY best in audiobook performance.
I have listened to the first six Jacky books and Katherine Kellgren never fails to deliver. I especially enjoy her dialects (she is equally charming in Baker's FROG PRINCESS, voicing a range of animals); the singing included in the Jacky books is beautiful and often haunting as well. She is so talented that I need to go back and read some of the books without her influence to better appreciate how my students respond to these adventures if they don't have listening opportunities!

My classroom library and I have been transferred from seventh to sixth grade this year and I plan to take Jacky with me even though my seventh grade girls implied they thought Jacky was a bit precocious. What age students would others recommend for this series?
Can't get the download link?!? Is it missing?
Woo Hoo!!! Downloading now! Thanks very much, guys. :) The "here" above just didn't link, and it's too early in the morning for me to figure it out, LOL ... I'm good now!
Holy cow, I love the Bloody Jack series!! In fact, a co-worker and I are doing two booktalks today for two groups of teens and one of the books we are booktalking is Bloody Jack!

I love that it is paired with Treasure Island. Very cool!
